Each print is unique and hand colored by Richie Culver. He painted the words "You just couldn't see it" with white acrylic on every edition. The print comes on hand primed linen, stretched on a wooden frame, additionally refined and finished by hand.

I Loved You, You Just Couldn't See It' was first created in 2002. It is a very personal work by Richie Culver. His work is heavily autobiographical, his “I Loved You” paintings for example were inspired by an attempt of Richies to get his ex-girlfriend back. He climbed up one night at the back of her house, went to the roof, and sprayed exactly these words above her bedroom window. 

 

In spring 2020, we decided right away that we would produce an edition together. And yes, we could see it! It fits so well with our time and circumstances. And it was soon clear that it had to be big, black and hand-colored.  Richie immediately began working on the basic image for the edition. We were stunned when the motif arrived in Munich and soon we scanned and reproduced it in archive pigment print on canvas. Then Richie visited us in Munich, where he finished the  editions by painting the words "You just couldn't see it” on them. The result is this wonderful and unique edition; very profound, personal, and full of passion.

I Loved You, You Just Couldn't See It" enstand 2002. Es ist eine sehr persönliche Arbeit von Richie Culver. Sein Werk ist stark autobiografisch geprägt, seine "I Loved You"-Bilder zum Beispiel wurden von einem Versuch Richies' inspiriert, seine Ex-Freundin zurückzubekommen. Er kletterte eines Nachts an der Rückseite ihres Hauses hinauf, ging auf das Dach und sprühte genau diese Worte über ihr Schlafzimmerfenster. 

 

Im Frühjahr 2020 kamen wir schnell auf die Idee, dass wir gemeinsam eine Edition produzieren würden. Und ja, wir konnten es sehen! Sie passt so gut zu unserer Zeit und den Gegebenheiten. Und es war bald klar, dass sie groß, schwarz und handkoloriert sein musste.  Richie begann sofort mit der Arbeit am Basismotiv für die Edition. Wir waren verblüfft, als das Motiv in München ankam, und schon bald scannten und reproduzierten wir es in Archiv-Pigmentdruck auf Leinwand. Richie besuchte uns in München, wo er die Editionen fertig stellte, indem er die Worte "You just couldn't see it” aufmalte. Das Ergebnis ist diese wunderbare und einzigartige Edition; sehr tiefgründig, persönlich und voller Leidenschaft.



Richie Culver (1979) is a British contemporary artist. Culver’s art began with collaging his photographs, and expanded to other mediums such as painting. He gained great recognition in 2010 with a work on a group exhibition at the Tate Modern as part of the exhibition "The Museum of Everything".

 

In terms of his influences, Culver has always been interested in minimalism, forms of combat and anarchic undertones like the K Foundation. Through humorous and naive paintings, sculptures and drawings filled with stereotypes, characters, and places from his daily life, Culver’s work is a combination of autodidactic, autobiographical, and socially minded art practice. He is in line with some of the great rebels of creative expression that have made the United Kingdom a landscape of artistic rebellion for the past 40 years. From the social dissatisfaction that gave birth to the punk movement such as Vivienne Westwood, to the gothic fear of new wave, to Damien Hirst, to Tracey Emin. Culver is part of a cultural evolution of artists with extremely unique and inspiring ideas.

 

Culver’s art is in the collections of Tate, Harry Blain, Claus Busch Risvig Collection, Kenny Schachter and many great art collectors. He recently exhibited at Saatchi Gallery, London; Humber Street Gallery, Kingston Upon Hull; Zweisieben, Karlsruhe; Stavanger and Lehmann + Silva, Porto; L21, Palma; Ruttkowski 68, Cologne/Paris; Annka Kultys, London; Sundays-S Gallery, Copenhagen. At the moment he is internationally represented by Lehman + Silva, Porto, Portugal.

Richie Culver (1979) ist ein britischer zeitgenössischer Künstler. Culvers Kunst begann mit der Collage seiner Fotografien und dehnte sich auf andere Medien wie die Malerei aus. Große Anerkennung erlangte er 2010 mit der Arbeit an einer Gruppenausstellung in der Tate Modern im Rahmen der Ausstellung "The Museum of Everything".  

 

Was seine Einflüsse betrifft, so hat sich Culver stets für Minimalismus, Formen des Kampfes und anarchische Untertöne wie die K-Foundation interessiert. Durch humorvolle und naive Gemälde, Skulpturen und Zeichnungen, die mit Stereotypen, Charakteren und Orten aus seinem täglichen Leben gefüllt sind, ist Culvers Werk eine Kombination aus autodidaktischer, autobiografischer und sozial orientierter Kunstpraxis. Er steht im Einklang mit einigen der großen Rebellen des kreativen Ausdrucks, die das Vereinigte Königreich in den letzten 40 Jahren zu einer Landschaft der künstlerischen Rebellion gemacht haben. Von der sozialen Unzufriedenheit, aus der die Punkbewegung wie Vivienne Westwood hervorging, über die Gothic-Angst vor der New Wave, über Damien Hirst bis hin zu Tracey Emin. Culver ist Teil einer kulturellen Entwicklung von Künstlern mit äußerst einzigartigen und inspirierenden Ideen.  

 

Culvers Kunst befindet sich in den Sammlungen von Tate, Harry Blain, Claus Busch Risvig Collection, Kenny Schachter und vielen großen Kunstsammlern. Kürzlich stellte er in der Saatchi Gallery, London; Humber Street Gallery, Kingston Upon Hull; Zweisieben, Karlsruhe; Stavanger und Lehmann + Silva, Porto; L21, Palma, Ruttkowski 68, Cologne/Paris; Annka Kultys, London; Sundays-S Gallery, Copenhagen aus.
