GRAND TITANS

Art & toys: a unique encounter between pop culture and street art

In 2022, the Museum NRW Forum in Düsseldorf presented the Wonderwall art exhibition, which broke all visitor records. The GRANDS TITANS exhibition, which will be shown at the NEO art & culture lab VogelART in Nice from February 27 to March 15, 2025, is a compact but no less ambitious version of this.

The GRANDS TITANS exhibition features artworks from the world-renowned TOYGIANTS Series by Daniel & Geo Fuchs, as well as works and sculptures by KAWS, Takashi Murakami, Yoshitomo Nara, Shepard Fairey, JR, Banksy and other artists.

For the first time in Nice, international visual artists and creators of the street art scene will be brought together in a spectacular collection of photographic and graphic works, unique pieces, sculptures and art toys that will immerse us in the colorful world of pop culture of recent years.

VogelART is curating the exhibition together with the artist couple Daniel & Geo Fuchs. Many of the artists selected for this exhibition have their origins in the skateboard and graffiti scene. They grew up with characters like Bart Simpson and Luke Skywalker. Therefore, this exhibition is also an opportunity to connect with the pop culture icons of the 80s and 90s.

Since then, street art has become so popular due to a reversal of the paradigm that millions are paid at auctions for works by artists such as Banksy or JR. Shepard Fairey, who designed the famous “Hope” campaign poster for former US President Barack Obama, is now world-famous. In the meantime, the. They are also enjoying commercial success, as in the case of pop artist KAWS, who has just signed a new collaboration with the House of Dior. Or Takashi Murakami, who works with Louis Vuitton. These iconic personalities merge the New York street culture of hip-hop, breakdancing and graffiti with the manga culture of Japan, creating a new field of artistic exploration and a new visual world.

The TOYGIANTS series by Daniel & Geo Fuchs came about through an encounter with the collector Selim Varol and his ten thousand toy figures. Colorful, loud, kitschy, the artist duo stages the art toys. The figures are given a character, whether as a portrait or in a staging.
